Vision Quest Mundi, 2017
Digital print of Mundi the puffin with custom-made props, superimposed onto an image of the viewing tower at Hallgrímskirkja in Reykjavík, Iceland.
A woman walking in Reykjavík stumbles upon a puffin who was hit by a car. She takes it to a veterinarian, who pronounces the bird blind. The vet suggests they put the bird down, but the woman decides to take it home and nurse it back to health. She names it Guđmundur, but calls it 'Mundi' for short, because it rhymes with 'lundi', the Icelandic word for puffin. Several news sources pick up her story, as finding a puffin in that situation is an anomaly. She creates a social media page for Mundi, which attracts a global audience of animal enthusiasts. Through keeping the bird, the woman learns all about puffins.
